A Complete Guide for Bachelor, Master and Numerus Fixus Programs
One of the biggest mistakes in Dutch university applications is assuming that the process is just about āuploading documents.ā In reality, the dynamics of a Bachelor application to the University of Amsterdam and a Masterās application to Delft University of Technology are completely different.
The most common scenario we encounter is this. Documents prepared for Bachelor applications are assumed to be sufficient for Master or Numerus Fixus programs. The result? Automatic rejection emails due to incomplete or incorrect files.
In this guide, we list in detail the documents you must upload to university portals after your Studielink registration, categorized by program type (Bachelor, Master, Numerus Fixus). Always check this list before preparing your application file.
š 1. Bachelor (Undergraduate) Application Document Checklist
Bachelor applications are generally simpler. However, the key issue here is diploma equivalency. Dutch universities strictly assess whether your high school diploma is equivalent to the Dutch VWO diploma.
Mandatory Documents
High School Diploma or Temporary Graduation Certificate
Official Transcript (Grades 9ā12, translated into English)
Passport or ID copy
CV in a simple European format (Europass or similar)
Language Proficiency
IELTS / TOEFL meeting the minimum score (usually IELTS 6.0ā6.5)
Note. Some universities may grant exemptions for IB, AP or fully English-taught high schools.
š Advisorās NoteDiploma equivalency is critical. A Turkish high school diploma may not be sufficient for some research universities (WO), requiring a Foundation year.
šš 2. Master (Graduate) Application Document Checklist
A Masterās application is not paperwork. It is an academic presentation. Admissions committees closely examine how well your academic background aligns with the chosen program.
Academic and Mandatory Documents
Bachelorās Diploma
Bachelorās Transcript
Course Descriptions (critical document explaining course content and syllabi)
Passport
Supporting Documents
Motivation Letter (Statement of Purpose)
Academic CV
Reference Letters (usually 2 academic references)
Additional Exams (Program-Based)
GMAT / GRE for competitive fields such as Business, Economics or Data Science
š§Ŗ 3. Numerus Fixus (Limited Enrollment) Programs
Numerus Fixus programs (Medicine, Psychology, AI, etc.) represent the most competitive track. Uploading documents alone is not enough. You must pass an active selection process.
Basic Documents
Diploma and Transcript
Passport
Language Certificate (must be uploaded before the deadline)
Selection Process Requirements
Special Assignments
Online cognitive tests (logic, math, subject-based)
Motivation questionnaires or structured interviews
ā ļø Critical WarningFor Numerus Fixus programs, 15 January is a strict deadline. Submitting assignments even one hour late results in rejection.
šÆ Final Note
Dutch universities do not select the smartest students. They select the best-prepared application files.
